Qualifying Exam Dates

The Spring 2016 Materials Science and Engineering doctoral qualifying examination will be held May 9 and 10. If you intend to take the Materials Science and Engineering doctoral qualifier exam in May 2016, please let Pamela Ross know before March 2, 2016. The closed book exam will be from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on the 9th and the open book exam will be from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on the 10th. Both a nanomaterials-based version and a physical metallurgy-based version of the exam will be available (see below for details of exam subject matter)

Nanomaterials-based Exam:

  • Undergraduate materials science (as per EGN 3365)
  • Intermediate Structure and Properties (as per EMA 5104, new version)
  • Thermodynamics (as per EMA 5106)
  • Kinetics (as per EMA 5317)
  • Interfaces and Colloids (as per EMA 6319)

Physical metallurgy-based exam:

  • Undergraduate materials science (as per EGN 3365)
  • Intermediate Structure and Properties (as per EMA 5104, new version)
  • Thermodynamics (as per EMA 5106)
  • Kinetics (as per EMA 5317)
  • Physical Metallurgy (as per EMA 6126)
