Kathleen Richardson, a Pegasus Professor of optics and photonics and joint professor of materials science and engineering, has been named a Darshana and Arun Varshneya Frontiers of Glass Lecturer.
This honor is awarded by the American Ceramics Society to individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of glass science and technology. Individuals must be nominated and then selected for the lecture by the Vershneya selection committee.
Richardson’s research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of novel glass and glass ceramic materials for optical applications. She manages the Glass Processing and Characterization Laboratory at CREOL, which is a leading source of global expertise in the design, fabrication and characterization of next generation materials for use in infrared components and systems based on diverse optical applications.
Richardson was the past president current fellow of the American Ceramics Society. She has won several other awards over the years for her contributions to the field.
The Varshneya Lecture will be given at the ACS Glass and Optical Materials Division’s annual meeting.
