Yuxun Ren obtained his doctorate in mechanical and aerospace Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2019. From 2019 to 2023, he received postdoc training at Vanderbilt University, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Maryland, College Park. He also worked as a senior scientist in battery industry from 2023 to 2024.

PhD openings
The lab is currently looking for PhD students (2 openings) for Spring 2026 and Fall 2026. The candidate is expected to major in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, or Chemical Engineering. The candidate is expected to work on battery energy storage. Potential research topics include (1) control algorithm for battery management systems (computer-based), (2) battery data analysis (computer-based), (3) advanced battery characterization tools (experiment-based), (4) innovative design of lightweight/fully recyclable battery packs (experiment-based).
