Doctoral candidate Swetha Barkam is a winner of the 2014 Extreme Leadership Scholarship presented by the UCF’s Student Government Association. The $750 award is presented to students who demonstrate outstanding leadership and service in school and their community.

Barkam is a member of Sudipta Seal’s research group. Her research focus includes interaction and application of nanoparticles in biology.

Recently, Barkam co-authored a paper with Seal and Rameech McCormack, titled “Biocompatible Functionalization of Nanoceria and Retention of Catalytic Properties Post Ion-Particle Interaction.” In November, that paper was presented at the Sustainable Nanotechnology Organization Conference in Santa Barbara, California.
